Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) & Resilience

The news is not all bad. Research tells us that positive experiences in childhood increase resilience and reduce the risk of negative outcomes.

PCEs make a difference because they support the development of resilience.

Resilience is successful development in the face of adversity. It is both the human capacity to adapt despite challenges and threatening circumstances, and the outcome of successful adaptation.

Resilience can be enhanced by:

  • reducing negative experiences
  • supporting families, and
  • increasing skills to manage stress
